Do not put all the eggs in one basket

I am talking about source of traffic for your blog. And I must admit that I am doing exactly that. More than 80% of the traffic to my main blog comes from google.
Yes it is good traffic, but not enough, and also too risky, as I am not an expert here, I will quote some of the experts in the area.

Darren Rose from Problogger (https://twitter.com/problogger) says in:

7 Considerations on Generating Traffic to Your Blog (http://www.problogger.net/archives/2010/02/12/7-factors-on-generating-traffic-to-your-blog/)

  • There are Many Valid Sources of Traffic

  • Traffic Patterns Change over the life cycle of a blog

  • Too many Eggs in One Basket Can Be Dangerous

Bottom line of the post: You need to have diverse traffic sources to your blog, otherwise you may suffer some bad experience some dark day.

John Chow from JohnChow.com (http://www.johnchow.com/twitter) says in:

Live By The Google, Die By The Google (http://www.johnchow.com/live-by-the-google-die-by-the-google/)

Yes, you should work on getting Google traffic, but you shouldn’t do it the exclusion of everything else. If the bulk of your traffic comes from Google, then you need to work on getting other traffic sources. Just as I advise that Google AdSense shouldn’t be your sole online income source, Google search shouldn’t be your sole traffic source.

As you may see the advice from the experts is not to rely only on one source of traffic for your blog, it does not matter if that source is Google, Twitter or any other.

Once you are getting traffic from one source start working to get traffic from other, you will thank you have done that in the long run.

I will start working on my Twitter community, and hope that following the advices of (http://twitter.com/NicksTraffic) in the post:

I may be able to get some good twitter followers. Now if you really like this post tweet about it :), and follow me:
