I am a full time Telecomunications Engineer, and a part time geek Linux lover.
I own and maintain the site http://www.go2linux.org
I like freedom and open source.
My very personal blog
This is also the year where the definition of a desktop has changed. Apple changed it with the iPhone and, now, the iPad. Microsoft has failed to deliver in both these key areas. Linux has not.
Google gets the credit for that. As I noted yesterday Google Android has soaked up the excess demand for Internet hand-held devices that the iPhone left on the floor. My guess is that, once Chromium comes out, you’ll have the same experience there.
Linux has broken through because Google has the size to go toe-to-toe with either Microsoft or Apple, and push product through distribution. (Remember, there is a price lower than free.)
It’s the compatibility between Chromium and Android, based on Linux, which I think gives the old mouse-and-keyboard upright posture desktop Linux yet-another chance.
Mint offers simplicity and a full application suite. It abstracts all the complexity of the command line, much as Android and Chromium do. Even our own Jason Perlow likes it (and he is hard to please).
What’s still missing is the financial wherewithal to push this through the distribution channel. But with the success of Google as a patron for hand-held Linux, are Microsoft followers certain one can’t be found for the old-fashioned desktop?
My larger point is it doesn’t matter. Either Mint and Ubuntu will gain desktop traction or Google will simply bypass them.

I am talking about source of traffic for your blog. And I must admit that I am doing exactly that. More than 80% of the traffic to my main blog comes from google.
Yes it is good traffic, but not enough, and also too risky, as I am not an expert here, I will quote some of the experts in the area.
There are Many Valid Sources of Traffic
Traffic Patterns Change over the life cycle of a blog
Too many Eggs in One Basket Can Be Dangerous
Bottom line of the post: You need to have diverse traffic sources to your blog, otherwise you may suffer some bad experience some dark day. John Chow from JohnChow.com (http://www.johnchow.com/twitter) says in:
Yes, you should work on getting Google traffic, but you shouldn’t do it the exclusion of everything else. If the bulk of your traffic comes from Google, then you need to work on getting other traffic sources. Just as I advise that Google AdSense shouldn’t be your sole online income source, Google search shouldn’t be your sole traffic source.
reddit isn't actually as bad as I thought it was, it looked like a confusing mess beforehand but now it's better than this garbage
In around 15 minutes, the time it takes to install Ubuntu Server Edition, you can have a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) server up and ready to go. This feature, exclusive to Ubuntu Server Edition, is available at the time of installation. The LAMP option means you don’t have to install and integrate each of the four separate LAMP components, a process which can take hours and requires someone who is skilled in the installation and configuration of the individual applications. Instead, you get increased security, reduced time-to-install, and reduced risk of misconfiguration, all of which results in a lower cost of ownership.New pre-configured installation options have been added to the postgreSQL Database options join existing Mail Server, Open SSH Server,Samba File Server, Print Server, Tomcat Java Server,Virtual Machine Host,Manual Package selection,LAMP and DNS

Actually I prefer to run Nginx with Apache behind, but if your server is not going to receive too much load this maybe enough.
If you want to be able to get more load, you may want to also read this:

Digg used to be a great place to visit, there can usually be found a good mixture of stories all driven by the users. It was like a good democracy, where every vote count.
Yes, there were some users whose votes "count more", but what actually happened was that these users had so many "followers" that their submission has more chances to get the front page.
After talking to one of them, I realized that not even him can guarantee before hand if a submission was going to be successful or not, and that was good.
With the new version, the big sites like masheable or engadget own the power, that is not the idea of a place like digg.
If anyone wants a digest of masheable, engadget, or gizmodo there is google RSS reader.

Mainstream outlets and power users have been given more power over the front page.
All diggs are still equal, nothing has changed there. Our directory of recommended users will eventually open to the entire world. We will sort users, not on popularity (followers), but based on how good you are at finding/digging content (similar to wefollow.com). This will remove the popularity contest and put the focus on quality diggers.
